Student Council

The student council is a body of students who represent their tutor groups and year groups, and who contribute significantly to the running of the school. They offer their opinions and ideas on a variety of matters and plan and deliver activities that help fellow students and the wider community. The council meets weekly and student council representatives can be identified by badges, which they all wear with pride.

The school council is made up of the head boy and girl (from Y11), 23 senior students (from Y10 and Y11), and 42 form reps (2 from each from). A student can hold multiple positions (e.g. head boy, senior student and form representative). The roles and responsibilities of each role are outlined below:

 Head Boy and Girl: application by letter between Easter and summer half term. Appointment by SD team in summer term.

  • Be a positive role model in all aspects of school life including presentation, behaviour and a commitment to work hard
  • Attend school functions after school and when required, for example, open evening, Remembrance Day service
  • Lead whole school council meetings
  • Lead a team of senior students
  • Lead a student council sub-committee (learning, student development, environment or charity)
  • Be a lead voice for the student body, reporting to senior staff half-termly and governors as needed
  • Perform at least one lunch duty per week

  • Be a positive role model in all aspects of school life including presentation, behaviour and a commitment to work hard
  • Deputise for head/boy girl if needed at school functions after school and when required
  • Co-Lead school council sub-committee meetings (learning, student development, environment or charity)
  • Be a lead voice for your designated year group of the student body, reporting to school council
  • Perform at least one lunch duty per week

Form Representatives: application by verbal presentation and election in September

  • Be a positive role model in all aspects of school life including presentation, behaviour and a commitment to work hard
  • Participate in school council sub-committee meetings (learning, student development, environment or charity)
  • Lead student voice in tutorial session
  • Be a lead voice for your form group of the student body, reporting to your designated senior students
  • Be a lead student in student-led tutorial sessions
  • Maintain the form notice board

Each member of the school council also belongs to a sub-committee. Sub-committees focus on an aspect of school life. For their focus they gather and share student voice, develop plans to improve, implement, and evaluate these plans. The sub-committees and their areas of focus are:

  • Learning: Subjects, options process, transition, peer support
  • Student Development: Assemblies, tutorials, rewards, SMSC, SRE, CEIAG, extra-curricular
  • Environment: School environment, local/national/global environment
  • Charity: Fundraising, social action projects, volunteering

 Meetings are held weekly during Monday tutorial. The meetings follow an 8-week cycle:
